Effective implementation of legal frameworks

The adoption of robust legal frameworks and instruments is, by itself, not enough for the enjoyment of rights. What is established on paper must still be realised in practice for rights and freedoms to have a real and positive impact on the societies, communities and people they exist for. We are, therefore, invested in the creation and strengthening of open and effective mechanisms and institutions which contribute towards ensuring that the rights and laws pertaining to freedom of information, expression and the media are respected, promoted and fulfilled.

To this end, we are interested in initiatives which:

  • support state and non-state actors alike in building a sound comprehension of the operative laws in their contexts and what role they have to play in making them work
  • equip state actors to effectively implement laws and frameworks guaranteeing freedom of information, expression and the media at national level
