Nampu (Namibia Media Professionals Union) exists to protect, promote and support workers in the Namibian media industry. Praised and acknowledged as essential (when expedient) Namibian media professionals achieve despite tremendous pressures, merciless work environments, exploitation and persecution from any side, often unexpected, and lipservice when they are most vulnerable. Nampu is the media practitioners' attempt to defend themselves, especially when nobody else will.

DW Akademie is Deutsche Welle's center for international media development, journalism training and knowledge transfer. Our projects strengthen the human right to freedom of expression and unhindered access to information. DW Akademie empowers people worldwide to make independent decisions based on reliable facts and constructive dialogue. DW Akademie is a strategic partner of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. We also receive funding from the Federal Foreign Office and the European Union and are active in more than 70 developing countries and emerging economies.
 

In April 2008, H.E. the President established the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) by merging the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Communication section from the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication. The Ministry of ICT is responsible for the Information Technology, Telecommunications, Broadcasting, media and postal sectors in Namibia.

Our Mandate: To lay the foundation for the accelerated use and development of ICT in Namibia, and Coordinate information management within the Government.

Our Mission: To be a catalyst for universal and equitable access to information, and accelerated communication technology development for socio-economic growth

Our Vision: To facilitate the effective flow of accurate and timely information between the Government and the public, through reliable and citizen-friendly cyber access.

The ANIC is a Network of Information Commissioners, Ombudsmen, and other Regulatory Authorities, including Transparency Councils or Boards that are responsible for protecting, promoting and ensuring the respect of the right of access to information within their respective jurisdictions. The purpose of the Network is to establish a formal forum for dialogue, cooperation and exchange of knowledge and experience among its members. The Information Regulator (Regulator) of South Africa was elected as the interim chair and secretariat of ANIC.

The Media Ombudsman of Namibia is appointed in terms of article 4.2.3 of the Constitution and article 1.3 of the Media Complaints Procedures (Schedule II) of the Constitution of the Editors Forum of Namibia (EFN). The role of the Media Ombudsman is to administer the media complaints procedure, investigate complaints, conciliate between parties, adjudicate complaints together with the Media Complaints Committee, arrange for the hearing of appeals and report on complaints.

The Media Institute of Southern Africa advocates for media freedom and freedom of expression in southern Africa. MISA programmes have grown and now have a global outreach, especially through its media violations monitoring programme. As a result, MISA’s work and agenda have also been taken up by many civic organisations in the region, thereby creating consciousness of the linkages between media freedom, freedom of expression and broader human rights and democratic campaigns. The founding of MISA was triggered by the Windhoek Declaration on Promoting Independent and Pluralistic Media in Africa of 1991. The MISA Education and Production Trust was registered on 12 October 1994 in Windhoek, Namibia, by a group of activist media practitioners. The aim of the Trust is to promote and strengthen a pluralistic and independent media in Southern Africa as a pillar of the democratic process. MISA was formed against the backdrop of media violations and harassment of journalists by governments in the region.
