Together with our partners , we advocate for and promote media freedom, access to information, independent and pluralistic media, and safe digital spaces as enablers for democracy and socio-economic and political participation. fesmedia Africa introduces the Africa Media Barometer (AMB), its flagship project, implemented in partnership with the Media Institute for Southern Africa (MISA). This introductory video gives a glimpse of the AMB, including its history, objectives and methodology. The AMB is a recognized tool for analyzing and evaluating the media landscape in sub-Saharan African countries. It is a very descriptive, perception-based index of the media environments in Sub-Saharan African countries which promotes representation, transparency, enabling environments, and advocacy for media in Africa.
As part of Fesmedia Africa’s mission to promote freedom of information, freedom of expression and the importance of media’s role of facilitating dialogue in society, we present this video about the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI). This day was proclaimed on the 15th of October 2019 at the 74th UN General Assembly to be celebrated on 28th September every year.

This year’s official World Press Freedom Day celebrations were held in Windhoek, Namibia to acknowledge the fact that the Windhoek Declaration of 1991 was instrumental in the day becoming a UN International Day.
In celebration of this important day, fesmedia Africa launched a video entitled “Reflections on WPFD”
Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted in 1948 states that: “Everyone has a right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right include freedom of opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”
With this in mind, we chose to highlight that efforts need to be made so that people with disabilities are included with “everyone”, as called for by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and in the spirit of leaving no-one behind which anchors the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. A unique coalition of African experts in human rights, media freedom, freedom of expression and civic participation on the continent first came together in 2009 and later formally established itself as the working group of the African Platform on Access to Information (APAI) in 2011.

The animated film "Implementing Access to Information in Africa: Moving Forward Together" offers a solid overview of the steps and actors necessary to ensure that an effective implementation of access to information legislation becomes a reality.
Exercising one's right to information is the oxygen for democracy. Access to information is increasingly recognised as a prerequisite for transparency and accountability of governments, as a means of safeguarding citizens against mismanagement and corruption, and facilitating people's ability to make informed decisions about their lives.

It covers various issues on human rights, right to information, public participation, political inclusion and social inequality.
